Pain Relief Made Personal: How Latitude Wellness can Support You

This past week, Canada observed National Pain Awareness Week, a time to acknowledge and bring attention to the millions of Canadians who live with chronic pain. For those who aren’t familiar, this annual event is dedicated to raising awareness about the impact of pain on people’s lives and promoting access to effective pain management solutions. Chronic pain is often invisible, yet it affects so many aspects of a person’s life – emotionally, physically, and mentally.

What is Pain Awareness Week?

National Pain Awareness Week, recognized each November, is organized by the Canadian Pain Society and the Canadian Pain Coalition, both advocates for improved pain management. The week brings together healthcare professionals, organizations, and individuals to share resources, promote understanding, and spark conversations about pain. Since its inception in 2004, Pain Awareness Week has helped many Canadians feel less alone in their struggles and encouraged the public to learn more about what it means to live with chronic pain.

How Latitude Wellness can help you live a pain free lifestyle
Living with pain can feel isolating and frustrating, but there are ways to manage it and find relief. Here at Latitude Wellness, we understand that pain is not “one-size-fits-all,” and we offer a variety of services to address both mental and physical aspects of pain. See below how our counsellors and wellness practitioners can support you in pursuing a pain free life!

Acupuncture: Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medicine practice that involves inserting thin, sterile needles into specific points on the body to stimulate natural healing processes. This treatment is known for its ability to relieve pain by promoting blood flow, reducing inflammation, and releasing endorphins—the body’s natural painkillers. Acupuncture is commonly used to treat conditions like headaches, joint pain, back pain, and menstrual cramps, providing a holistic approach to pain management that supports overall wellness and balance in the body.

For the fall months our Acupuncturists are running some promotions! Acupuncturist Elise Greaves is offering a pregnancy promotional package. Acupuncturist Cherry Tung is offering a FREE Acupoint Workshop every Saturday!

Chiropractor: Chiropractic care is a hands-on treatment focused on aligning the spine and musculoskeletal system to reduce pain and enhance body function. Chiropractors use techniques like spinal adjustments, soft tissue therapy, and exercise guidance to relieve tension, reduce inflammation, and support the body’s natural healing process. Chiropractic care is especially beneficial for those dealing with back pain, neck pain, headaches, and joint issues, offering a non-invasive approach to pain relief and overall wellness.

Our Chiropractor, Dr.Sereena also offers cold laser therapy and orthotic fittings to further support pain management!

Registered Massage Therapy: Registered Massage Therapy (RMT) is a therapeutic approach that uses targeted massage techniques to alleviate pain, reduce muscle tension, and improve mobility. RMTs are trained professionals who assess each client’s needs and apply techniques such as deep tissue massage, myofascial release, and trigger point therapy to treat various conditions. It’s especially effective for those experiencing chronic pain, sports injuries, tension headaches, and stress-related discomfort, promoting relaxation and enhancing overall physical well-being.

Our RMT’s offer a range of services- from pre/postnatal massage, fascial stretch therapy, & hot stone massage to deep tissue & Swedish massage- we’re sure to have you covered!

Naturopathy: Naturopathy is a holistic approach to health that combines natural therapies and modern science to treat pain and promote overall wellness. Naturopathic doctors address the root causes of pain through individualized treatment plans, using techniques like herbal medicine, nutritional guidance, acupuncture, and lifestyle counseling. This approach is effective for managing chronic pain, inflammation, digestive issues, and hormonal imbalances, offering a gentle, non-invasive pathway to relief and lasting health improvements

Reiki: Reiki is a gentle energy healing technique that promotes relaxation and balances the body’s energy flow. Practitioners use a light touch or hover their hands above specific areas to help channel energy to where it’s needed, aiming to reduce stress, ease tension, and support natural healing. Reiki can be particularly helpful for managing emotional and physical pain, improving sleep, and enhancing overall well-being by fostering a sense of peace and relaxation. It’s a non-invasive, calming practice suitable for all ages and conditions.

For the fall months our Reiki Practitioner & Empowerment Coach, Tracy, is offering a 15% discount to 60 minute appointments- initial appointments included!

Mental & Emotional Support: Counseling can be a valuable tool for managing pain by addressing the emotional and psychological aspects that often accompany chronic or acute pain. Through therapy, individuals learn coping strategies, relaxation techniques, and ways to shift their mindset around pain, reducing its impact on daily life. Counseling also provides support for managing anxiety, depression, or stress that can exacerbate pain, helping clients feel more empowered, resilient, and better equipped to handle the challenges of living with discomfort. This holistic approach can lead to improved mental health and a greater sense of control over pain.

At Latitude, we offer a diverse team of counselors providing both in-person and virtual sessions, making it easy and convenient to attend. We also have two graduate intern counselors, Natalie and Anthony, who offer low-cost counseling with sessions starting as low as $25, along with sliding scale options. Our goal is to ensure that cost is never a barrier to receiving support

We believe in a holistic approach to pain management, addressing the mind-body connection and creating individualized treatment plans. If pain is impacting your life, whether physically or emotionally, reach out to us. We’re here to support you on your journey to relief, health, and healing.
